Breakfast at the Zoo , Gymnastics, and other stuff

A few Saturdays ago, we had breakfast at the Zoo and received a private tour of the Cheetah area.

She was a little upset when we were finished with the cheetahs because she thought we got to eat in their cages with them...
Here are some other pictures that I snapped that day.

The train ride was her favorite thing!

Also, Brianna has started Gymnastics and LOVES it....

Around the house and etc...

Super Bowl Weekend

The Saturday before Super Bowl, my mom and I took Brianna to her job for the "mini" rodeo that they were having. Brianna was not to interested in the majority of the events. She just want to go to my mom's office and play on the calculator.

For Superbowl, we went to our friends Meghan and Blaine's house. Well according to Brianna, it is just Meghan's house.

Meet Caesar, for now he is the only child of Meghan and Blaine's. He was a little jealous of all the attention Cade, Callie and Brianna were getting

The Madness!

I received a call from daycare last Thursday stating that Brianna had 102 fever. So of course, I left work and went to pick her up. She looked really sleepy and her cheeks were really red. She fell asleep between daycare and home (about 20 minute drive). Didn't really think anything of it. I took her to my room and put her in my bed so that she could watch TV while I disinfect the whole house. I made arrangements for her to stay at my parents for the night, stay with my mother-in-law tomorrow and have my grandma come over and stay with Bryce until Danielle came over.

(Oh yeah I haven't blogged yet about taking Bryce out of daycare yet. Sorry!)

Well all of this probably took about an hour, so I walked back into my room and find Brianna on top of my dresser sitting there watching TV. I guess that is what I get for assuming she was asleep. I said "I guess you are feeling better." She replied "Yep, I'm not sick" She seemed fine but I took her temp and she was up to 103.6, but acting totally normal.

That night she stayed with my parents and in the morning, my mom took her to Barb's (mother-in-law). Seemed to be acting fine but still had a temp. In the middle of the madness yesterday, I some how managed to make her an appointment with our family doctor in town for that morning.

Not a big deal right because she is acting fine !?!

Brianna has the FLU!!!

Great!!!! Before knowing that she had the FLU, I already made the decision that she was going to stay with my parents until this bug got out of her system. Now it looks like she will be staying with my parent for the next week. Isn't like she would even care that she had to stay with them. She would probably move in with them if we would let her.

I guess this is my first episode with her getting sick around Bryce, so of course I consider this a crisis. And YES! I am in the understanding this will happen many more times during the 18 years that they are both living under my roof.... Hopefully, they are not still living with me when they are 40!

I called the CF clinic that same day and they prescribed Bryce to take TAMIFLU just for precaution.

On Sunday, Bryce began to start running a low grade fever around100. Didn't think much about it because he is starting to teeth and he is already taking TAMIFLU. Well that night when I went to add more formula to his night feed, I noticed that he felt like he was on fire. I ran into the kitchen to get the thermometer and sure enough he had a fever of 103.2. I unhooked him from his food, gave Motrin, and took him to bed with me. After 2 hours of rocking, walking around the house and etc he finally went to sleep. When we woke the next morning, he was back to a 99 temp.

This continued for a couple of days. I called clinic on Monday and told them about the situation of his fever and they said it didn't sound like a CF thing and to try to get him into his pediatrician and if that didn't work, then we could bring him in. We took him to the non-cf doctor and they couldn't find anything wrong, no flu, no RSV, and no Strep!!! His lungs sounded great too! Nothing was wrong with this kid but his fever. Last night was the first night that he hasn't had a fever... Hopefully this was just a little bug that he was able to get rid of without having to use an antibiotic.

Avoided another hospital stay

I am pretty sure we are out of the woods from another hospital stay for the time being. Bryce has been running a low grade fever around 100.8, since Wed. He had a schedule visit with clinic on Thursday and they stated that it's some type of virus and let it run it's course. They mention to me if his fever reached above 102.5 to call. Well on Friday, when I came home from work he didn't really look to good and was burning up. I took his temp, it was 103.4. Holy Smokes!!!! I gave him some motrin then called the doctor and of course she wanted him in the ER. Well being the kind of parents that really didn't want another hospital stay, Nathan and I took our sweet time packing the bags. I would say 30 minutes lapsed and his fever was already down to 101.3. So we decided to cook a quick dinner and see what it was when we were done eating. It was 99.9. I called Dr. Franks back and told her that we would not be going in that the temp came down to 99.9. She said "Great, since the ER is full of sick kids right now." His fever finally broke around 10:00 pm Friday night.
Yesterday, he didn't do much but sleep. Now today is back to being happy go lucky Bryce, pulling his sister's hair every chance he gets.

So...So...

Clinic was a so so visit. He didn't gain weight. Actually, last visit he weighed in at 16.18 lbs and today he weighed in at 16.48. Very disappointing because I really thought he had gained at least a pound by the way he has eaten the past week. He finally started eating a whole jar of baby food (w/ butter) and 6.5 oz of 30 cal formula. He was doing this 4x a day plus his 8 hours of night feeds.
Bryce began running a fever yesterday around noon and it has spiked to 101.7. Clinic said his lungs sounded amazingly clear, his nose and throat look good. He isn't gassy or acting like his stomach hurts. They did a FLU and RSV swap on him just to make sure it's not the beginning of either one. They said that they are pretty confident that it's not one of them so they did not prescribe him any antibiotics.
We are just going to let the fever run it's course and monitor it with motrin and Tylenol. Dr. Franks is on call this weekend, she is not with the CF clinic but we have seen her in hospital. I LOVE her. So our team is going to make her aware of Bryce's situation.
Today is the first day in a long time that Bryce is not wanting to eat. Luckily, we have the g-tube to give him some calories. I didn't force much on him because I don't want him to start thinking that he doesn't have to eat and he can just get full by us pushing it through the tube.
On a positive note, Bryce had his first slice of pizza last night. We didn't give it to him, he actually stole it from my mom while she was eating it. Seriously, he took it out of her hands, then gummed the whole slice.

Follow Up Visit

This morning we had our follow up visit from last week were we lost half a pound and the first clinic after hearing the dreaded words of "he cultured psuedonomas..."
Overall, I would say might be our best visit so far in weight gain. We gained 1.2lbs in a week!!!! That is the most that he has ever gained in a week. The respiratory therapist said that if he keeps this up, we will be able to be fitted with a vest within the next 3 months!!! I am beyond excited.
Our Tobi arrived today while we were at clinic, so we will begin that tonight. Lisa, our NP, stated that is takes about an additional 30minutes or so just to do that one treatment. Seriously??? We did change his treatments from every four to only twice a day since we now know the cause of all of his wheezing and coughing. I would say 99% of it is gone. So I definitely won't argue with that change!
Our dietitian recommended that we start adding whole milk yogurt to his diet. Does anyone one have any recommendation with what brand has the highest calories???
